January 2019 – With an international cooperation team, and in partnership with Terre Sans Frontières, optician Nathalie Raymond and her daughter, Marie Côté, worked to provide hundreds of pairs of glasses to the inhabitants of the town of Libertad and the city of San Jose, on Panay Island, the Philippines. The mission was once again an opportunity for all to share moments of human connection with a team of dedicated partners. I had the pleasure of working with three young women, two of them students, whose altruism and understanding of the work really impressed me.
I want to thank my daughter, Marie, for following in my footsteps in this important work.
January 2016 - In the villages of Tibiao and Valderama, we performed 1128 eye exams. We distributed 1196 prescription glasses and 640 neutral sunglasses. Sadly, we realized that most people aged 60 and up had cataracts and would never have access to surgery. We improved their vision to the best of our abilities with the used eyeglasses we had on-hand.
A huge thank you to Sister Feliza and Brother Nolin for their exceptionally warm welcome and their efficient organization.
September 2014 - Nathalie Raymond, optician and Véronique Dion, optometrist were part of a team of vision care professionals that took part in a humanitarian mission in Madagascar, Africa.
Our luggage contained 1182 corrective lenses, 622 neutral sunglasses, as well as all the instruments required for eye exams and adjustments. We worked at Place Belle-Vue, Antsirabe dispensary, operated by the Little Franciscans of Mary. We examined 1019 people, handed out 953 prescription glasses, 561 neutral sunglasses and 364 clips.
The Sisters gave us a warm welcome and their assistance helped our team tremendously. The experience was so rewarding when we realized how much we touched people’s lives in such a positive way.
